Vision
I aim to foster in-depth understanding. No wrote learning and memorising. Students need to develop problem solving ability which draws from the toolbox of theory. So, a very thorough knowledge and understanding of mathematical rules and concepts is essential.
Mathematics assessments are synonymous with anxiety. This needs to be alleviated by regular practice at the various levels in the taxonomy.
Most common statements by students: ‘I understood everything in class…but when it came to the test!’ Conclusion: not enough exposure to difficult problem solving questions.
Timing in assessments is also a common cause of anxiety. This can be addressed by better preparation and practice at assessment standard. Also, practicing weak areas, not strong areas.
My teaching style is fun and light hearted. I make notes with my students as we learn. I think that having your own personal notes is essential, instead of just duplicating from the thousands of resources out there.
